The branch of dentistry that corrects improperly positioned teeth and jaws is called Orthodontics. Disaligned teeth and teeth which do not fit together are more difficult to clean, are more prone to tooth loss because of dental caries and periodontal diseases. These also give added stress on the chewing muscles which could quickly result to headaches, TMJ syndrome, neck, back and shoulder pains. Plus, disaligned teeth does not enhance one’s looks. An orthodontist undergoes an additional two more years of specialization in this field on top of their basic four years of dental school in an ADA-approved orthodontic curriculum.
