About Orthodontics

I personally have two dentists assigned for my teeth care. The first dentist is the one who is in charge of my braces and the second acts like an assistant, treating my toothaches etc. I have observed them keenly. The first dentist was a bit brash, aggressively holding my mouth at times. However, my dentist’s assistant was different. She has a “gentle hand” and she deserves to be credited for her tender touch. I wish that she is the one handling my braces treatment.

All professionals from the medical field should have a gentle hand so that the patient will be at ease and for his or her fear to diminish (even just a little).

According to KNBC News Los Angeles, there is a latest treatment that is actually more effective than braces. It is called “SureSmile”. It’s much faster than the traditional braces treatment and this has been proven by Orthodontist Adam Weiss when he treated his patient Jennifer Long.

The new treatment utilizes 3D scanning that aids the orthodontist to see a three dimensional view of the patient’s mouth. It’ll only take months for the teeth to align compared to the usual year or more treatment for braces. However, the bad side of this treatment is that, it is only available in developed countries such as the United States. It’ll perhaps be available to other countries soon.

The perfect smile may have many meanings but as people live longer, bright and shiny teeth are quite a necessity as sign of perfect health and of course longevity. Of course, we all have teeth problems and may have one or more false teeth but today’s dental industry has allowed more and more people to maintain their original teeth that might have otherwise have needed extraction in the past. Many parents are surely happy with this since their children can benefit from it. The title of the article reads, “Schools Fitting Needy Kids For Braces”, so it is clear as water that the article emphasized the kids’ wellbeing.

The best advice for people who have crooked teeth is to have their teeth fixed at an early age. Having braces at an early age can be beneficial for the kids since their gums are still soft (movement will be easier). Children are much easier to convince regarding traditional orthodontics techniques but as stated, it can be years before the treatment attains the full effect. Proper chewing and swallowing, being comfortable when eating, proper breathing, correct speech and looking aesthetically pleasing are only a few of the things that orthodontics, a branch of dentistry, is concerned about.

Orthodontics involves the proper arrangement of the position of the teeth either for functionality or aesthetic purposes (such as braces, root canal therapy and other various dental treatments available). There is nothing more satisfactory than showing off that beautiful smile. A regular visit to your orthodontics and taking proper care of your teeth are needed to be done in order to achieve this. But of course, there are certain issues that we have to deal with in order to make our teeth to look good. One of which is financial. I do have braces and my mother spent P25,000.00 for it (up and down). The cost of my braces is in fact cheap since in other dental clinics, prices can sky rocket up to P60,000.00 and above (especially those dental clinics where the celebrities go).

Why do people laugh when they see braces on my teeth? On the other hand, why are some envious of me? What is the real significance of having braces? These are in fact some of the questions teenagers who have braces on their teeth ask.

Having braces on one’s teeth can in fact attract taunts from people. Some do make fun of those “metal-mouthed geeks”, but you don’t really have to worry about anything; most of them do not know the real significance of those metal bands in your mouth. You just have to wait for the right time when your braces will be pulled out by your dentist, and watch the reactions of the people who used to mock you. Perhaps they will be embarrassed with all the taunts that they did. Some people are envious, why? Because they know that after your braces are removed, you’ll be able to have that mega-watt smile everyone is dreaming of.

But of course, braces do have disadvantages. One of which is that, you have to be really tolerant of the pain it will cause especially on the first day. Watch out!
