Teens Like to Smile – Not with Braces

denatphobiaTeens who are undergoing orthodontic treatment have been drilled and questioned about the psychological effects the procedures are having on their daily lives. They love the idea of getting fuller smiles as they grow but hate having metal braces, making them very much conscious of smiling. This would be a contradiction of the aim of treatment yet being teens, they are known for being quite conscious of everything.
The psychological effects of such dental treatments have long been known and both parents along with dentists have simply shrugged off the effects as mere triviality. This can lead to a loss of quality of life for some who have to wear their braces for long periods due to massive adjustments needed. Counseling and communication between patients and dentists are better at alleviating this unseen side effect and constant updating of the progress should calm their fears.
